WHAT IS OUR MISSION?

Project Lifesaver is a proactive response to identify those individuals within the community who have a tendency to wander away from their caretakers. This program consists of a small radio transmitter that the client wears on their wrist or ankle. Each transmitter has a frequency that is unique to the client. They can then be tracked by receiving equipment that highly trained emergency responders use.

WHEN DID PLSHC FORM?

Project Lifesaver Hendricks County was formed in January 2008.  Several members of Brownsburg Fire Territory received the specialized training needed to use the tracking equipment, and within the first 6 months of operation had 8 clients from the Avon, Brownsburg and Danville areas.

Today there are over 60 clients enrolled and numerous agencies and individuals in the Hendricks County area trained in the use of the locating equipment.

Local Non-Profit Receives a $15,000 Donation from Champion Chevrolet in an Effort to Protect Special Needs Children throughout the Town of Avon

Champion Chevrolet of Avon, IN made a large donation totaling $15,000 to Project Lifesaver Hendricks County; a local special needs search and rescue organization. The donation was made as part of #AVONPROTECTS, a fundraising initiative sponsored by The Avon Chamber of Commerce in support of the expansion of Project Lifesaver into the Avon Community School Corporation.

“We are very happy to make this contribution to Project Lifesaver of Hendricks County,” Tim Roberts, owner of Champion Chevrolet and Mike Mills, General Manager explained. “The program is vital to the protection of our special needs community, and with these funds, we can ensure the safety of the children attending our schools who are at risk of wandering.”

Project Lifesaver is a proactive emergency response program aimed to protect special needs individuals within the community who have the tendency to wander away from their caregivers or a safe setting. Clients enrolled in the Project Lifesaver program are outfitted with a small radio frequency transmitter that emits a signal unique to that client. If the individual should ever wander or become lost, certified Project Lifesaver Electronic Search Specialists are able to quickly locate the individual by triangulating the location through the utilization of radio frequency receivers.

Monies raised through #AVONPROTECTS will allow the purchase of additional Project Lifesaver receivers that will be housed at each of the schools in the ACSC district, as well as allow Project Lifesaver of Hendricks County to certify front office staff in the utilization of the equipment, as well as the search and rescue techniques used in each Project Lifesaver search. The immediate availability of a receiver at the school will reduce the time needed to initiate a search for a client who may wander from any of our local schools.

“Emergency responders have a goal of arriving within in 4-6 minutes, but with the help from the trained staff at ACSC, the search can begin immediately – while emergency responders are still in route,” Karen Hendershot, the Program Coordinator for Project Lifesaver Hendricks County explains. “Those crucial minutes during a search are key to a successful recovery, and I am very thankful to Champion Chevrolet for their contribution to this expansion!”

The purchase of the receivers from Project Lifesaver International will occur in the very near future, with plans to certify ACSC personnel tentatively scheduled for March. Project Lifesaver of Hendricks County hopes to have the expansion of the program into all 12 of Avon schools by the conclusion of this school year.

Various donations have been made to the #AVONPROTECTS campaign since it originated in mid-December from State Bank of Lizton, American Mold Experts, and Chick-Fil-A.
